Regarding the perfect day out, there’s nothing like a good walk to enjoy fresh air, stunning landscapes, and adventure. With its diverse scenery and charming trails, East Sussex has something for every walking enthusiast. Here at Camperfun, we’re all about exploring, and we’ve picked out some of our favourite walks in East Sussex for you to check out. There’s a trail here with your name, whether you’re after seaside paths, rolling hills, or ancient woodlands.

Seven Sisters Cliffs

If you haven’t done the Seven Sisters walk yet, put it on your list. We think it’s one of the most iconic coastal walks in the UK, with dramatic white cliffs stretching along the coast between Seaford and Eastbourne. The views are something else; you’ll see the chalky cliffs contrasting against the blue sea and, if lucky, a sky full of seabirds. The hike from Seaford to Eastbourne is about 13 miles – perfect for seasoned walkers. But don’t worry, you can always pick shorter sections if you fancy a gentler stroll.

Ashdown Forest

Ashdown Forest is hard to beat for a taste of classic English countryside. The forest is famous as the setting for the beloved Winnie-the-Pooh stories, and walking here feels like stepping into a storybook. There are many trails, from short loops to longer hikes across heathlands, wooded areas, and quiet streams. One of our favourites is the Pooh Walk, which takes you past the real-life Hundred Acre Wood. Plus, if you’re exploring in one of our motorhomes, there are plenty of nearby spots to park up and enjoy a post-walk picnic.

South Downs Way

Covering 100 miles across Sussex and Hampshire, the South Downs Way is a big one. You don’t have to tackle the whole route, but picking a section around East Sussex will give you a taste of rolling hills, peaceful villages, and panoramic views. Try the section between Alfriston and Eastbourne for a blend of woodlands, open downs, and classic South Downs scenery. We like how you can mix up your walks here with a mixture of long stretches and shorter circuits that lead you back to quaint villages and pubs.

Cuckmere Haven

Cuckmere Haven offers a mix of river, coastline, and rolling fields – and it’s one of our absolute favourites for a more relaxed stroll. The area’s natural curves of the meandering river make for a beautiful walk with endless photo ops. Start at the Seven Sisters Country Park and follow the Cuckmere River down to the beach for a laid-back walk with beautiful surroundings. It’s a gentler route but gives you stunning scenery, especially at sunset.

Bodiam Castle

Bodiam Castle is a fantastic spot if you’re into a bit of history alongside your nature walks. The castle is an incredible sight, and the surrounding countryside is full of trails ranging from strolls to longer walks along the River Rother. We think it’s a great family-friendly option, especially if you’re into castles and a bit of medieval charm. And nothing says “end of the day”, like a lovely tea or pint at a nearby pub.
